10 Quick Steps to Writing a Book Proposal
My latest 10 Quick Steps Guide is finally available.
I started writing for David Lawrence’s 10 Quick Steps series at the end of last year. The first title I wrote was called 10 Quick Steps to Writing a Book Proposal . I followed that one up with 10 Quick Steps to What’s New in Panther . Since the Panther title was more time-sensitive, David published it quickly. The Book Proposal title, on the other hand, sat on the back burner for a very long time — six full months, in fact — before it was finally released.
10 Quick Steps to Writing a Book Proposal is based on my extensive experience writing book proposals. Let’s face it: I’ve had more than 50 books published in the past 14 years. I must know something about how to sell books to publishers!
I wrote the guide in plain English, with plenty of examples from some of my earliest book proposals. It was a lot of fun to write because I got a chance to exercise my sense of humor, which doesn’t get out much in published documents.
The guide is available in two versions: a PDF, which was designed to be read on-screen, and an MP3, which is read by David Lawrence. David’s got a great voice and does a wonderful job reading all of the titles. What’s good about this title in MP3 format is that its narrative style makes it great listening material. The how-to stuff I wrote in the Panther guide isn’t the same when read aloud without the benefit of the screen shots.
If you’re interested in writing a book and need some advice for writing the all-important book proposal that’ll sell it, I hope you’ll check out 10 Quick Steps to Writing a Book Proposal . I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
