Technorati Tags

January 16th, 2006 by Maria Langer

It’s another way to make this blog part of the Blogosphere.

Technorati is a service and Web site that collects “tags” from blogs all over the world. The blogger includes special codes in the blog entry that identify certain words as tags. The blog software “pings” Technorati when there’s a new blog entry. Technorati collects the tags from the entry and adds the entry to its database. Someone interested in one of the tagged words can then find the blog entry when searching Technorati.

On Sunday, I added a WordPress plugin called Simple Tags that makes it very easy to code words in my entries as Technorati tags. Select the word or phrase and click a button. It’s all done. The list of tags appears at the bottom of the entry. You can click one of those tags to go to the Technorati Web site and see a list of other blogs that have the same tags applied.

If you like to waste — I mean spend — time surfing blogs on the Web, Technorati is a good place to start. It’ll help you find blog entries that refer to things that interest you. Of course, that doesn’t mean those blog entries will be good or even very relevant. But it is a place to start.

Tweak, tweak, tweak.
