Metal contracts in cooling temperatures. So doing this may help temporary "repair" defective hardware portions on the disk, which might be just long enough for you to recover data.

As an IT admin, I was also skeptical when I first learned about this, but I have tried and was successful a few times. I even stick it in the freezer three times and was able to pull data off little by little. The drive died after the 3rd try though.

Best of luck!

A data recovery guy I spoke to in Phoenix claims that if the damage may be heat related -- and I think it is -- an hour or two in the freezer could bring back the disk for enough time to get the data off of it.

After waiting 9 days for my data recovery software to unsuccessfully recover what was on that disk, I'm willing to try anything.

Patience is something I learned from living here in Wickenburg and dealing with the people who run the town.

Just wndering what the stint in the freezer is for - to teach the disc a lesson?

But seriously - what should the cooling achieve? I've not heard of that technique before.

Nine days of software recovery! That's mighty patient!
