Experimenting with another new plugin.

Just thought I’d try another new plugin on the site: Share This. This adds a Share This icon and link at the bottom of each post. If you like the post a lot and want to share it with a friend, click the link to view a bunch of options for sharing it via e-mail or social networking.

This is in a trial stage right now. It’s there and it should work, but I’m not happy with the way it looks. I just don’t have time to tweak it right now.

Your feedback is welcome. Use the Comments link or form below to let me know what you think of this change.

    Maria,
Thanks for trying ShareThis. You’ve got a great background! I’d love to get your feedback on the product. We are definitely going to be creating more ways to style the button to your tastes.

What I’d really like is the ability to put the Share This button and link anywhere within the WordPress loop. Right now, it appears that it uses a hook, so I can’t move it. I’d like to put it beside my Print this Post link and allow the CSS formatting to style it the same way. So it blends in with the rest of the site.

    Otherwise, it’s fine.

Hmmm….I’m liking it a little less. One of the reasons I wanted to install Share This was to eliminate the XHTML errors I got from creating and using my own social networking links under each post. But I see that Share This results in the same kinds of errors. Guess I’ll need to nag them about it.

    Maria,

We’ve received a good response from bloggers indicating that they would like to put the ShareThis link anywhere on their blog posts, and we have good news. We will soon be releasing a new version of our WordPress plugin that will enable you to do just that. The updated plugin will allow users to turn off the auto-output and put the link wherever the wish. The new version will also contain valid XHTML, so this should eliminate the errors that you are seeing as well.

Thanks again for your interest in ShareThis!
