This morning, I picked up a box of 24 baby chicks that I’d ordered from Ideal Poultry. They were shipped to me via Priority Mail and arrived at the post office today. This is the unboxing video.

It is kind of interesting — if the chicken noise doesn’t drive you nuts. I tried to provide some info. And I didn’t show all 24 chicks getting their first drink or being dropped into the box. That would have put everyone to sleep.
The WebCam isn’t quite as good. The heat lamp makes the picture a weird color and you can’t get a good image of the chickies. It’s in the sidebar of my Home page, but you can check out the current image here: http://www.theflyingm.com/webcams/chickiecam.jpg

The locals here told me to put mine on paper towel for the first week or two so they do not get spraddle leg from sliding on the paper.

I have a chicken book that says the same thing about paper towels, but the newspaper seems to work okay. I only use it for the first two or so days.

Little known fact about me is that I once lived on a kibbutz where my job was to take care of the hundreds upon hundreds of baby chicks we had from day 2 and up. I had forgotten until hearing your chirping that I had to walk barefoot through them all each day to be sure that no one got accidently squished.
